Vision for the essay writing contest

We are looking to explore the innovative minds of today’s youth in the field of Literature and Technology. As every person is different and has their own unique voice, the same can be said for their powerful imagination.

Mission of the essay writing contest

Use BeeStudent scholarship essay contest to demonstrate your talents and bring your imagination to life. Your essay will be evaluated based on innovation, originality and rationality. While we strongly believe that your thoughts, ideas and innovation cannot be measured by prizes, we are offering various options as an incentive to participate and as an acknowledgement of your work.

Eligibility

Our scholarship essay writing competition is open to secondary and tertiary students from various countries across the world. Some of the core topics for the contest include:

Topic 1: Challenges and Opportunities of Remote Work

Topic 2: How to Manage Stress and Anxiety in Academic Life

Topic 3: The Role of Sports and Physical Activity in Student Development

Contest Deadline

Submit your completed essay by August 19, 2025 as the announcement for the final results will be done by August 27 th , 2025. The winners will be contacted via email and an announcement will be posted on the scholarship page of our website. Our judges’ decision is final and we are unable to accommodate individual essay review requests once the contest is closed.

The top three participants will receive cash prizes according to the following:

• 1st Prize: $1000
• 2nd Prize: $800
• 3rd Prize: $600

Guidelines for BeeStudent scholarship essay competition

• Your essay should be between 600-800 words, however, we will accept a deviation of 10% of the final word count (not including the title of the essay).
• Plagiarism will result in a disqualification of your essay and participation in the contest.
• If direct quotes are used in your essay, ensure that you reference the author’s name as an “in-text” citation.
• Essays are only accepted in English.
• The essay must be typed using Microsoft Word and saved as full_name_topic#.doc
• Submit an MS Word document via email to [email protected] .
• Put your full name, email address and topic number in the left-hand corner.
• Do not deviate from the main content.

Essay Contest

JASNA conducts an annual student Essay Contest to encourage the study and appreciation of Jane Austen's works in new generations of readers.

Students world-wide are invited to compete for scholarship awards in three divisions: 

High School:  students and home-schooled students enrolled at the high school level during the contest year

College/University:  students enrolled in at least six credit hours of course work at a junior college, college, or university during the contest year

• Graduate School:  students enrolled during the contest year in at least three credit hours of graduate course work at a college or university leading to an advanced degree 

Membership in JASNA is not required to enter the contest.

2025 Contest Topic

2025 marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth. The theme for our annual general meeting is “No check to my genius from beginning to end,” a joking remark from one of her letters. This has suggested the prompt for our contest this year, which is to choose something Austen has used in her novels—a particular word, a recurring situation or motif, perhaps a physical object, symbol or activity—and then choose two scenes (they may be from the same novel or different ones) where she employs the chosen “something” in contrasting or complementary ways. Explain the different roles it plays and why Austen uses them as she does. What point is she trying to make? Does she succeed? In conclusion, explain what prompted your choice. 

Here are a few additional guidelines.

• Do not choose a word from the title of one of the novels. 
• Do not analyze any proposal nor any letter.
• Be sure to use quotations from the scenes you have chosen to give us the context.
• High school and undergraduate students: You need only choose one novel to write about, though you can choose a second one if you wish.
• Graduate students: You are encouraged to quote from more than one novel, and where possible, to bring in connections to Austen’s life.

Submissions

The deadline for submissions is June 2, 2025 . We will begin accepting entries online in February 2025. In the meantime, it is essential that you visit the  Submissions  page to learn about the contest rules and eligibility requirements before entering.

Essay Contest Awards

• First Place:    $1,000 scholarship, plus free registration and two nights’ lodging for JASNA’s upcoming Annual General Meeting . (Transportation to the conference is not provided.)
• Second Place:    $500 scholarship
• Third Place:   $250 scholarship 

Winners also receive one year of membership in JASNA, publication of their essays on this website, and a set of Norton Critical Editions of Jane Austen's novels.

Let Grow's Think for Yourself Essay Contest Awards $8,000 in Scholarships

Every year, Let Grow asks U.S. high school seniors to think about the importance of independence, curiosity, and open-mindedness in their everyday lives. We award a $5,000 scholarship to the Grand Prize Winner, and $1,000 each to three Runners-Up.

Students submit 600-800 word essays about their personal experiences with these ideas. We want real-life stories of growth and change (not your resume or bio).

Since launching in 2018 we have received over 33,000 entries and awarded $57,000 in college scholarships.

The winners’ essays have been published in  USA Today , The New York Post , The New York Daily News , The San Francisco Chronicle , The New Jersey Ledger , Quilette , and EdWeek . This year, David Iglesias had his essay published in The San Francisco Chronicle and Caitlyn Evans had hers published in The Virginian Pilot .

Our 2025 contest will open february 3rd., thank you all for your essays, we read every one of the over 2800 we received and selecting just 4 was a challenge., what to write, prompts for 2024. your 600-800 word response must be a personal narrative, written by yourself, about yourself and your opinions. we want real-life stories of growth and change (not your resume or bio, or 5 paragraphs about to kill a mockingbird )., write about a time you chose or unexpectedly had to do something new and important on your own. how did that experience change you and why did being independent matter, some say teens and even young adults in college should be shielded from controversial books, ideas, or speakers. do you agree why or why not if yes, who would you let decide what you could be exposed to, how has social media impacted your willingness to be authentic, share your true thoughts, learn about other people’s ideas, and/or engage seriously with them please give us one or more examples., write about a time someone changed your mind about an idea or belief you strongly held. how did this change happen and what did you learn from the process is there anything you’ll do differently from now on, write about a time you didn’t speak up — or almost didn’t — for fear your idea or viewpoint might be unpopular. was this the right decision and would you do the same thing again, how to write it, your 600-800 word response must be a personal narrative, written by yourself, about yourself and your opinions. we want real-life stories of growth and change (not your resume or bio, or 5 paragraphs about to kill a mockingbird )., the form will not allow you to save and return, so have your pdf essay ready to upload., file requirements (we want you to think for yourself but also follow these instructions), copy the prompt you are writing about at the top of your essay., to help us judge fairly, do not include your full name on your essay., write at least 600 words but not more than 800 words (title is not included)., only a pdf file can be uploaded., submissions will be checked for plagiarism and use of chatgpt or other ai tools. you need to think for yourself, not ask ai or someone else to think for you..

Problem Solvers OpEd Contest

The Alliance for Innovation and Infrastructure (Aii) is excited to announce a fall 2024 scholarship for college students. The contest is open to all enrolled college students nationwide and seeks to engage America’s greatest rising minds to think about and articulate solutions to some of the nation’s most pressing challenges.

Who is Aii?

The Alliance for Innovation and Infrastructure (Aii) is the only nationwide public policy think tank dedicated to infrastructure. Aii is a nonpartisan, independent research and educational organization with a mission to help foster innovative solutions to current and future infrastructure challenges. An innovative think tank, Aii explores the intersection of economics, law, and public policy in the areas of climate, damage prevention, eminent domain, energy, infrastructure, innovation, technology, and transportation.

Choose Your OpEd Topic

Closely read the following prompts. Read Aii reference material from “Selected Sources” at the bottom of this page and incorporate relevant information in your own original OpEd article, citing directly to Aii in your final OpEd. Articles must be written in English only and should not exceed 900 words in length. The audience and tone should be toward the general public, or specific regional audience of a given publication.

• Write a well-reasoned and well-supported opinion column (or an OpEd).
• Cite Aii and our research material.
• Submit it to a local, state, or national publication of your choosing.
• Once you’ve done so, upload a hyperlink to the published article or send in proof of a good faith effort to get your article placed.

Turning Up The Heat

The future demands power! We will need more energy to meet the needs of a growing and dynamic economy. Much of the energy we consume is in the form of electricity, but much of the heavy industrial world uses heat and other forms of energy. Assuming we need to both increase total energy capacity and reduce the impact of power generation, how can we decarbonize heavy industry? This prompt calls for strategic thinking – recognizing that certain infrastructure in place now that may need to be replaced, while other assets rely on new infrastructure like transmission lines, batteries, and more. Cast your vision, but ensure you account for the challenges along the way. Write an OpEd up to 900 words.

An Action Plan

The many cities and towns across the United States, deficiencies in infrastructure—such as deteriorating roads, aging water systems, or inadequate public transportation—often go unnoticed or unaddressed despite their impact on residents’ daily lives. Identify a specific infrastructure issue where you live  that is not receiving sufficient attention. Analyze its impact on your community, determine if it reflects a broader systemic problem in the U.S. or is a local concern, and propose detailed solutions to address it . Be sure to evaluate potential challenges to implementing these solutions and suggest ways to overcome them.

This is the second annual scholarship contest run by Aii. Education has always been integral to what we do, and we believe this is an outgrowth of that vision. We challenge students to read and engage with our dynamic research and reports to arrive at their own original arguments. Not only will they learn in the process, but they will advance the learning process by showcasing their ideas for others.

We are eager for students to take advantage of this opportunity to raise their voice and compete in the nationwide marketplace of ideas. By using an OpEd style contest, we are encouraging students to make a difference, speak up, and show their local policymakers and the country how we can leverage innovation and existing infrastructure to solve problems.

Opportunity

This contest not only provides students an opportunity to compete against their peers, but the chance to earn scholarship funds. One finalist will be named and their work promoted, with 1st place earning $5,000 or more. Select runner-ups may also have their work highlighted to our nationwide audience of industry leaders and policymakers.

Eligibility

This contest is open to all currently enrolled college students across the United States. Students will have until November 15 to write out a well-sourced, original argument on one of two prompts – citing Aii research – and attempt to place it in a newspaper or similar publication.

• Open to all enrolled college students, including graduate students

• One entry per student.

• Contest will run from September 1 to November 15. Entries must be made by 11:59pm ET on Friday, November 15.
