Hello, I have seen examples of each Ph.D. http://radio.weblogs.com/0110772/BusinessCardEng.jpg http://www.psych.ufl.edu/~white/kdw_..._card_2005.gif and also examples of PhD http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/audio...rd-Herring.gif http://research.microsoft.com/~awils...20card%202.jpg Any comments which is correct or more correct? Thanks -

Ph.D. according to Chicago Manual of Style.
Thank you

They are all fine. However, imhe, no academic puts "Ph.D" on their card. It's assumed that you have one, especially if "Professor" is anywhere on the card. A Ph.D. is sort of like having a ticket for the show. No one pins it to their chest. Same goes for research labs like JPL, NASA/Ames, etc... The only reason that you would put Ph.D. is if you work in the bureaucracy or in the corporate world, where not everyone has a Ph.D. The only letters I generally see on academic and researchers cards are things like fellowships in the Academy of Sciences or a similar honor.

I dunno, I have to disagree with that. I've been in academia (psych) for the better part of my life and whose with doc degrees have Psy.D. or Ph.D. on their card. It is assumed that if one is called a "psychologist" then they have a doctorate as MS level practitioners default to "therapist". Perhaps this is different in other fields such as research as the above poster mentioned IMHO if you get through a doctoral program you deserve to put it on there MrR

Ph.D. looks better, IMO.

not all professors have a ph.d. it is a common complaint at many colleges that undergrad classes, especially lower division ones, are being taught by professors with only a master's degree.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished, cuffed (1.5 inches or less), cuffed (more than 1.5 inches), no preference, as long as the proportions work, forum sponsors, members online.

It looks like Liberty University is now offering Ph.D. in Aviation. URL: https://www.liberty.edu/online/aeronautics/doctoral/phd-aviation/

Good for Liberty . They already have a well-established School of Aeronautics offering bachelor's and master's degree programs. ERAU has some competition.

They're offering it up as a scholarly degree. I have a hard time accepting the idea that Aviation is a scholarly field: The dissertation gives you the chance to develop scholarly findings and contribute to the base of knowledge in your field. The degree is about the aviation industry: This degree covers a wide range of current and historical issues affecting the aeronautic industry. Additionally, you can add to the existing knowledge base in this field through your dissertation. THAT is a description of a professional, not scholarly, doctorate. I wonder what the central theory(ies) of Aviation is/are? What, if any, are the contributing theories? And what makes Aviation distinct from others, like business or macroeconomics? Meteorology? Physics? And, because it's Liberty , there's this: This doctoral aeronautical science degree is designed to help shape you into an aviation leader who is committed to investigating and solving aviation issues through research, educational leadership, and Christian ethical standards . (Emphasis added.) Ethics can be part of a discipline's central or controlling theory. (It is in my field.) I wonder what adding the distinction "Christian" does? And since it is called out, must it be addressed in the research process? How? A scholarly doctorate is designed to create new theory (knowledge) or test theory, or both. They acknowledge this in their description. (See above where they call it "knowledge base." I wonder what that knowledge base is? No answers, just questions and some opinions.

The curricula for their online aviation and aeronautical programs are awful. They're management programs with planes and airports thrown in. They should just call them aviation management .

Will a graduate of this program be able to fly, as in be a pilot?

Pretty neat, you can actually get your pilot's license through that program.
It surprises me that Liberty has not jumping into online/hybrid JD program yet.

PhD and Ph.D. are both correct. Canadians tend to omit the periods and those from the U.S. tend to keep them. A reference grammar explains it like this: 2 abbreviations and acronyms 1 punctuation. We usually write abbreviations without full stops in modern British English. Full stops (AmE ‘periods’) are normal in American English.
Jun 29, 2015 · According to Wikipedia, there are many ways to abbreviate it:. Doctor of Philosophy, abbreviated as PhD, Ph.D., D.Phil., or DPhil in English-speaking countries and originally as Dr.Philos. or Dr.Phil. (for the Latin philosophiae doctor or doctor philosophiae), is in many countries a postgraduate academic degree awarded by universities.
Oct 5, 2015 · Ph.D. is an abbreviation of the Latin, not the English. Wikipedia says: A Doctor of Philosophy degree (often abbreviated Ph.D., PhD, D.Phil., or DPhil) or a Doctorate of Philosophy, from the Latin Doctor Philosophiae...
Jun 21, 2024 · William Carey University (DEAC accredited) is presently offering a PhD in Global Development. The school notes that "WCIU’s Ph.D. in Global Development is approved by Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) as part of a pilot project. However, the program is not yet included within WCIU's scope of DEAC accreditation.

Apr 6, 2017 · Which is correct in citing someone's name who has a PhD: "John Doe PhD" or "John Doe, PhD"?
You will find that PhD Ph.D. BSc B.Sc. MSc and M.Sc. are all found. The question linked to handles this for PhD/Ph.D. but the answer covers the rest. The only thing to add to it is to be consistent, so PhD and BSc or Ph.D. and B.Sc., but not one form together with another in the same piece of writing. –
Feb 8, 2012 · The abbreviations D.D. or similar for Doctor of Divinity and L.L.D. for Legum Doctor or Doctor of Laws are somewhat older than M.D. or Ph.D.. For example, the 21st edition of Nathan Bailey's An universal etymological English dictionary , printed in 1675, shows T.D. in the entry after fifth SYZYGIA entry, and shows L.L.D. after LIZEN'D .
Jan 11, 2023 · There are tons of professional master's degree programs specializing in all kinds of professions and occupations. But a PhD in "Aviation Management" is really a PhD in Management with some aviation-related stuff tossed in for context. Ugh.
Dec 23, 2010 · I am studying PhD in the university. In the above, both sentences are wrong. Inserting for a between studying and PhD would make sentence 1. correct. Sentence 2. would still be wrong, as in is the wrong preposition to use in this case: I am studying for a PhD at the university. [Correct] I am studying for a PhD in the university. [Wrong]
