The full name of Mahatma Gandhi was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar district of Gujarat. His mother’s name was Putlibai and father’s name was Karamchand Gandhi. Gandhiji’s father was the Diwan of Porbandar Rajkot during the British rule. Gandhiji was the eldest of three brothers. His mother was a woman with religious thoughts when he was young.

Mahatma Gandhi was educated from Mumbai University. Here he passed the matriculation examination, after which he enrolled in Bhavnagar Samaldas College. Moving from Gujarati to English language, he started having a lot of difficulty in reading. He was interested in becoming a doctor, but apart from the Gujarati Vaishnava family’s prejudice against rags, it was also clear that he would have to become a barrister if he was to follow the family tradition of achieving a high position in the royal house of Gujarat.

Went to England to study Barrister. In September 1888 he boarded a ship. Ten days after his arrival, Gandhi entered Inter Temple, one of the four law colleges in London, took his studies seriously and tried to improve his English and Latin by sitting for the London University Matriculation Examination.

He accepted a 1-year contract with an Indian company based in Nadal in South Africa, which was to change his life completely. Going to South Africa, he saw how the Indians were being oppressed. After returning from South Africa, Gandhiji established the Indian National Congress to give Indians their rights. For the first time, used the weapon of Satyagraha and got victory. Thus, when Gandhiji returned from South Africa in 1914-1915, there was a radical change in his thoughts and life practices. Returning to India, he jumped into the struggle by giving the goal of complete independence to an organization like the Indian National Congress.

By boycotting the English law, he sounded the bugle of Satyagraha. The Rowlatt Act, which violated the human rights of Indians, was opposed at many places. In 1919, the atrocities on the protest meeting in Jallianwala Bagh shook Gandhiji’s conscience.

From now on, holding the reins of proper freedom movement, openly jumped into the struggle. Indigo Satyagraha of Bihar, Dandi March or Salt Satyagraha Kheda’s farmer’s Satyagraha were the main Satyagraha movements of Gandhiji’s life. Foreign boycott and burning of foreign goods, importance of Charkha and Khadi for Swadeshi propaganda by untouchables are included in other social reform movements started for the promotion of Sarva Dharma Ekta.

That’s why he had to travel to jail several times. In 1931, Gandhiji went there to participate in the Round Table Conference held in England, but when Harijans were given the privilege of election separately from Hindus, against their wishes, Gandhi returned to India. Started the movement again.

When he started fasting after being imprisoned, the whole country was upset, as a result, the British government had to leave the stubbornness of separate election rights of Harijans according to Gandhiji’s opinion.

In the year 1942, on the occasion of Mumbai Congress, the warning given by him to the British, the British left India and the challenge given to the Indians to do or die, the result of which the British were obstructed from leaving India and finally liberated India on 15 August 1947.
