Growing up with Technology Born in the eighties, I entered a world of big hair and bad style. In the technological realm there were tape players, VCR’s, and fresh on the market: personal computers. Apple was domination the computer scene with their introduction of the Lisa computer. But not for long, soon computer technology would jump to unimaginable heights. As I grew up the technology around me would continue to grow and advance – quite rapidly I might add. My first encounter with computers (as far as I can remember) was when my next door neighbors got their very first Apple. I can remember going over to their house and begging to play on their computer. All I wanted to play with was the paint- brush program because I thought it was the neatest thing to be able to move something with your hand and have a picture created for you on the screen according to what your hand did. It was very cool! Then came “computer lab” in elementary school. We had to go with our class once a week down to the computer lab for an hour or two to learn basic computer knowledge. I was always one step ahead of my fellow students, so in fourth grade my computer teacher asked me to be apart of the computer club. I know that sounds pretty nerdy, but this is how I stayed up to date on the newest computer advancements. After all, I didn’t own a computer and I couldn’t always go over to my neighbor’s house all the time. I can still remember the day that my teacher brought in and showed us compact discs. She acted like they were very expensive and had to be handled with extreme care. I was so scared the first time I held one because she had instilled in us the fear of scratching and messing them up permanently. This is the generation of digital natives. Everything that we do in our lives has to do with technology. The way we communicate, socialize, and learn. The way our children learn has also changed. Children are like sponges their minds soak in what is placed in front of them. They take in new ideas and how things are done. Young children are beginning to learn more through technology with the advancement of online apps. Children with speech and language problems are using technology to advance further with programs such as LENA. Children to day have no choice but to be somehow influenced by technology. Many people have a largely growing opinion on technology, being positive or negative on children. Children's usage of technology should be limited and monitored. Too much usage can result in violence upon to many violent video games,as well as laziness and obesity from prolonged hours of usage. The moral of it all is children are being saturated in technology being that its good or bad. If a child plays a lot of video games it can define his or hers attitude towards school or even towards family seem to be more into video games than girls. The usage of technology in school as well as with speech and language, benefits children in easier learning. Children use educational games to better understand subjects being taught. I have 11 girls and 14 boys in my full–day kindergarten class where I teach language arts, math, science, social studies, and health. My observation was spent at Bedford Rd School in Pleasantville, New York on January 9th to 13th during my winter break with Mrs. Vecchiariello's kindergarten classroom. There are 20 children in the classroom with some students with special needs so in the morning the teacher gives 1/1 help on the side in the room on a table and some get pulled out with a special education teacher. The kindergarten includes a morning and afternoon snack as well as lunch for each student. The students were provided a variety of engaging learning experiences and hands–on materials. There are various apps and tools that can make setting up usage easy in your home so that it will cut off automatically when the limit is reached.
Another strategy is to encourage children to use technology in moderation and balance it with other activities such as reading, playing outside, and spending time with family and friends. Put these activities in the calendar, agree together on what your children would like to do and make it something you all look forward to, together.
By setting clear rules and guidelines, and encouraging balance in their use of technology, parents can help their children navigate the digital world in a safe and healthy way.

It’s easy to learn about different cultures, languages, and traditions without leaving our homes. This global perspective helps us understand and respect diversity. Unbeknownst to the average American, a war is being waged across the country. The war has nothing to do with bombs or terrorists, and everything to do with the future. The war being waged is over the reconsideration of traditional elementary school curriculum and the removal of cursive writing instruction in favor of technology . That technology, while already heavily adopted, is still relatively new in the span of human history and is being implemented rapidly despite the absence of scientific understanding regarding the functioning of the developing brain, and it is for this reason that instruction of cursive writing needs to be reinstated into elementary school curriculum until studies can be conducted to determine that its loss will not have an impact on elementary aged children. Cursive Writing Should Be Taught In Schools
Technology has completely taken over when it comes to writing and it’s not fair to strip this curriculum out of schools and it’s especially not fair for the parents of young children to have to teach their children at home how to write in the cursive script I think it should at least be offered as an extra curriculum class such as music, band, and sports. I think that cursive writing could really benefit anyone children especially but for some reason the school systems have become so dependent on computer technology that a lot of the testing in schools are even done on a computer I remember doing CSAP testing and you had to make sure you filled in the correct bubble just right. The question to focus on is, does television good for the children? Children spend a significant amount of their time using technological gadgets. These include computers, electronic toys, television, and games. Children start using these technological gadgets at a very early age (Plowman & Stephen, 2010). Continued use of technological gadgets makes children be conversant with the digital devices. Therefore, efficient use of technological tools would improve the childhood learning significantly.
Children from affluent families usually have more access to various technological gadgets at an early age than children from low-income families. This makes children from affluent families develop technology-handling tools at an early age. Ensuring equal access to technological tools in a classroom setting provides equal learning opportunities to all children. This reduces any handicaps that children from low-income families may have due to lack of technological devices in their homes (NAEYC & FRC, 2012).
Knowledge of the intellectual capabilities of children facilitates the development of computer applications that fit children’s learning style. Development of appropriate computer applications enables children to be participatory learners. These computer applications help children to build their own knowledge through trial and error (Haugland & Wright, 1997).
In addition, use of computers creates a holistic learning environment. Computer applications integrate several subjects such as math and languages. Computer applications enable children to explore different environments – such as the human body or space – enabling them to gain knowledge on several areas of the curriculum simultaneously (Haugland & Wright, 1997).
Therefore, use of technological tools in childhood education is crucial. It creates a favorable learning environment that eases the learning process. However, teachers should have the necessary skills that would enable them to teach the children effectively (Kravitz, 2004).
